This is not fundamentally true. There's nothing wrong with education in the liberal arts. The problem is education isn't an elitist thing anymore. The "everyone should go to college!" meme killed college, and it's killing STEM too, although somewhat more slowly. The "T" in STEM has already been compromised pretty much.
