Why would you go out of your way to buy rice? Buy a certain grain if you have a preference, but rice is grown en masse pretty much everywhere in Asia. Just because it's japanese doesn't mean it's going to be some artisinal bs
No.30534
>>30530But the japanese rice is actually better.
I admitted it's not much better than Japanese strains grown in California though.

You don't have to put anything else in at all, that's how most asians use their cooker. The rice is very plain, it contrasts with the (usually very strongly) spiced main part of the dish. Obviously you just make it however you want though, tell em to fuck off, it's your rice.

I want to add something to rice to make it taste better, like spices, but I don't know where I'd search
All the stuff online is for rice dishes, like cooked chicken or adding lots of vegetables and fish
No.30568
>>30567Most common spices to add are star anise and clove (together or singularly works). You could try lemon/lime zest or juice if you can't find whole spices easily. That'll makes rice more interesting without much effort and it's a taste you might be able to work with easier.
You can just do soy sauce, worcester sauce, or some furikake mix as a topping at the end if you don't wanna do anything with the cooking process.

>>30567Sour cream and soy sauce is amazing with white rice.
I found this out by accident but the pure fat/salt with rice is great.
No.30576
yeah
slow cook it with milk, butter, sugar and nutmeg for a delicious rice pudding
or gently fry in butter some chopped dried apricots and sultanas with some pine nuts and a little cardamon and clove then add to rice before cooking (absorption)
