On the topic of regrets a lot of people say the mistakes of the past being clear cut, but I subscribe the opposite. That the future you fails to acknowledge the circumstances of the past which lead to a supposed regretted decision.

Lets start with an over the top example to clearly illustrate my point.

1. Person gets idea to fly off roof by flapping his arms
2. Decides not too
3. Older him regrets this decision as it would have been a cool and thrilling thing to do

This demonstrates a case of blind regret where a person only imagines the most optimistic outcome to past events and then denigrates himself for not doing so. The reality being, if he had jumped off a roof and tried to fly he would have died.
