I'm just now realizing that self-driving cars will NEVER be legal and common on roads.

It's like flying cars.

Sure you can build a flying car, or a self-driving car, but it will never be safe to have everyone using one in public space. Think of all the bugs in software, even just one minor bug in something like the amount of steering that needs to be applied to a turn, can kill people.

There MIGHT be an "autopilot" feature for large trucks that can only be used on approved highways.
