https://myanimelist.net/anime/seasonFinally got caught up with all the shows released so far.
I've only skimmed through most shows, so don't get too offended if I call something you like crap, but basically, everything so far is probably crap except these two shows (don't assume I'm hyping these shows):
>Mitsuboshi Colors:Modern day Ichigo Mashimaro.
>KokkokuI wondered why this felt so different than every other show, the studio is new, this is their first TV series. Been waiting for some fresh blood to make something good.

Pop Team Epic started alright but it was hit and miss to begin with and this last episode was seeing fewer hits. I don't like how they have the second half of the episode be a replay of the first with different voices and then the second episode had different voices again.
Mitsuboshi Colours is fun to watch. I'm not sure how much more I can say on it but I like it.

Just watched Beatless and liked it too.
Can't believe how much stuff I actually like this season, I've watched barely any seasonal anime in the past couple years. I think the average quality of anime is finally starting to improve.
Now watching all these, and I don't think I'll drop any of them.

- Darling in the FranXX

To be honest I missed out on most of this genre, or didn't like the shows I tried, but for some reason I'm enjoying this one. Can't tell you why, nothing is particularly unique about it.

>I have no idea what direction Beatless is going in. Apparently it's a 24 episode show too. I haven't watched the second episode yet, but I hope this will be a more action oriented "automation/robots strike back at humans" plot, rather than robo waifu "DearS" type plot.
I thought the self-driving car being hacked to kill humans was creative and relevant to modern day.

I actually really like the franxx designs they're like somewhere between older stuff like getter robo with a more simplified style to fit trigger's cartoony-ness spliced on the silly looks of star driver.
Honestly what the show as a whole reminds me of for some reason is cyboorg 009 maybe just the use of music and overall atmosphere I guess?
Even if it turns into a Valvrave trainwreck, I feel like I definitely will want to DL and watch it right away each week.

No.22618
>>22617It's definitely not a harem.
It's basically a mecha show, where a boy/girl both have to pilot the mecha because it's a metaphor for sex.
This metaphor was pretty subtle in the first episode, but not subtle at all afterwards. It becomes very obvious that they're constantly making references to sexual performance and piloting the mecha.
The mecha designs are pretty cringe IMO. Still one of the best shows this season, easily. Definitely the most popular show this season on /a/.

ffmpeg -i in.mkv -sn -c:a copy -crf 18 -tune animation -preset veryfast -vf subtitles=in.mkv,scale=-1:720:flags=lanczos -ss 22:09.994 -to 23:39.960 "Kokkoku ED.mp4"
An example on how to make a browser-compatible encode of an ED with ffmpeg, out of a typical 1080p HorribleSubs release, while not transferring any softsubs, copying the AAC audio (no audio quality loss), x264 settings for a good video quality and compression, downscaling to 720p with lanczos, hardcoding the subs, and specifying the exact key frames when the ED starts and stops.
The -preset option is supposed to decide compression and filesize, it does not effect quality, -preset ultrafast is supposed to be the fastest encoding option, but the worst at compression, which means producing a larger video file. I ran this through same encoding process but with -preset ultrafast and got a 47MB file.
However, while -preset placebo is the slowest compression option, which is supposed to produce the best filesize, but it is VERY slow, it produced almost the same filesize as -preset veryfast
Placebo: 17.3MB (16.49MiB)
Veryfast: 17.7MB (16.88MiB)
This would make a much bigger difference in longer videos, but for something short like encoding EDs, I would recommend just using preset veryfast, or the default, medium.
Also it's a really good ED.
No.22739
>>22737Why don't you use webm?
No.22741
>>22739The audio is already in AAC, which I can't put it in a webm container, I would have to transcode it to Vorbis or Opus audio.
Also I would have to encode the video to VP8 or VP9, and basically to get the same video quality, I would have to produce a much larger video file. I'm not sure if the formats are just worse than H.264, but I know the encoders available for vp8/vp9 aren't nearly as good as x264.

No.23140
>>23139It wouldn't exist at all as we know it to begin with. Otakus getting into the anime industry is what gave us anime of the late 80's and 90's, you realize that there wouldn't be anything other than glorified toy adverts and shonenshit if not for the otaku demographic, right?

No.23143
>>23141It's quite funny you're being this indignant at the state of an industry you aren't part of even as a customer, what with being a pirating gajin and all that. That aside, "lazy cash-grabs" and cost saving measures is something that exists in every entertainment medium, and I don't see why anime should be an exception, especially considering the shit pay animators get.
>they enable all these lazy cash-grab seriesYeah, and without them there wouldn't even be whatever anime you consider to be good. Do you honestly think jap salarynorms watch late night anime or some shit?
No.23153
>>23119It's been that way for a while. Human resources are expensive and animators aren't paid well.
No.23155
>>23143Me being "indignant" isn't quite as funny as you seemingly going out of your way to not see what I'm saying. My point is that it's up to the consumers to hold creators to any proper standard. If the overall quality of the anime being made today has dropped- and it has- it's because the consumers standards have dropped. Otaku nerd faggots seem to be more than happy with a show that focuses on how the girls are just so cute (and pretty much all anime girls are cute anyways) rather than having a show that has any actual substance to it.
And it's not as if I expect every anime to be a 10/10 masterpiece, but I at least want
something. Even a shitty hack like Rumiko Takahashi could could up with fun, interesting settings and characters instead of making using the same tropes and achetypical characters that have been done over and over again. Rumiko would just use the same shitty jokes over and over again and drag her series into the trash.
Authors can see what the "memes" are, they know how to pander to their consumers and get them to buy the merch. It reminds me of Hillary Clinton doing a stereo typical black pastor voice when she wanted to pander to blacks. Who would want that? Anyone goes along with it should be ashamed for allowing themselves to be strung along like that and enabling more behavior like it.
>It's quite funny you're being this indignant at the state of an industry you aren't part of even as a customerSure, but if I see something sickening it's only natural for me to be sickened by it. Not sure what you're point is with that.
No.23156
>>23155>If the overall quality of the anime being made today has dropped- and it hasThat's a highly subjective statement.
>Authors can see what the "memes" are, they know how to pander to their consumers and get them to buy the merch. But it has been like this forever. Anime is made to make money. It does this by pandering to the obsessive otaku market. It's as simple as that.
>Sure, but if I see something sickening it's only natural for me to be sickened by it. Not sure what you're point is with thatMy point was that you aren't the target demographic. You're just another western asshat who's complaining about how the tastes of the demographic anime is made for do not fit your own.
No.23159
>>23156>That's a highly subjective statement. I think it's a widely agreed upon thing among anime fans.
>Anime is made to make moneyIt's also there to tell a story of some sort, not just make money, and since there have been anime that have good stories and characters, clearly it's possible to do both.
>My point was that you aren't the target demographicYeah, I'm not a low IQ, dumb, idiot, retard otaku faggot so a lot of anime isn't for me.
>You're just another western asshat Fucking dumb weeb. Kill yourself.
