https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-jersey-sonic-booms-military-plane-f-35/Yesterday I heard a loud explosion and the house shook.
It freaked me out a bit, I went outside and looked, I thought we got hit by a bomb, or had an Earthquake (extremely rare on east coast).
Then I forgot about it, thought I might have just imagined it. But there's a whole bunch of news articles on it, and no one knows what caused it, but it was probably just a jet that caused a sonic boom. Not unheard of, but I never felt/heard one that loud and powerful.

>>20640Somebody tried to sell me a 244hz monitor, it's probably good for really high end competitive CS GO players but it would be quite difficult for many games to ever get to 244fps to make use of it and I would rather have a higher resolution for better viewing of anime images.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IP1P72QThe $30 100g bag of ceremonial grade matcha. It's bright green.
Never had matcha before, but I've drank imported sencha for years.
I think I like matcha more already, the effect is much stronger (fresh green tea gives you a mild high), you get all the nutrients because you're actually drinking the leaves, and no need to clean out a tea pot.
Just put it in hot water and stir, thinking about getting one of those bamboo whisks for it though.

Since detainees who had never exposed themselves were not eligible to receive pizza as a reward, the program had a reverse effect, leading to an "increase in exposure incidents" since the detainees without prior incidents "were now incentivized to commit indecent exposure and masturbation in order to qualify for a pizza reward," court documents state.

I'm not dead yet…
I am very very very sad, /what/friens. On halloween, I was driving back to where I'm staying now from my parents' house. I had my Mina penguin costume, and was feeling pretty good. But I got into a car crash, and my car was ruined.
So right now I'm stuck. I can't go anywhere on my own. I feel like I've lost the little freedom I had. I just want to go home!! I want to go back and be comfy and sleep a lot and go for walks and watch my cute idol videos in peace!!!!
I only came down here because I could get a job and make lots of money. I thought I would be happy if I was staying with my friend. But I'm so so not happy /what/!!!!
I thought I was doing so good, getting healthy and eating well and working hard! I felt good about myself for ONCE!!!!
But I'm not making any money. With rent, and now my car, I'm barely making anything after a paycheck, even though work is killing me!
And the person I'm staying with is really terrible to me… He's constantly looking down on me. I can't say ANYTHING without him using it to insult me! If I say my back hurts from work, "That's because your posture is shit and you sit on the couch all day long." If I just want to relax and watch some Twice videos, "What have you done productive today? Just gonna waste all your time watching videos of girls you'll never meet?"
I hate it! How is what I choose to watch bad?! It's no different than him choosing to spend his time watching TV, right?
And not only do I have to hear this to my face, but every morning before I get up, I get to hear him badmouthing me to other people.
I'm surrounded by constant pressure, I can't enjoy the things I want to unless I'm alone, and I can't go anywhere!!!!!!
The only time I get to enjoy is the couple hours in bed listening to music before I fall asleep. When I get to think about how I only have to hold on for a few more weeks and then I'll go back home. When I can feel bad and sometimes cry until I fall asleep. When I can just enjoy my cute girl videos for a little bit.
I know the things I want to do and where I want to be. But it feels so far away right now /what/. And that's really heavy to think about.

And no matter how low things have fallen, you can just hug it and she will hug you back. You can cry all you want and she will listen, and no matter how bad things get she will always be there, on that pillow, smiling, and you can hug her all you want. Firefox 57 came out today. It broke compatibility with the vast majority of extensions, they no longer work.
I spent over 5 hours upgrading today. I ditched a few extensions I didn't need that weren't compatible, and discovered uMatrix, which replaced 2 extensions I was using for whitelisting cookies, and user-agent spoofing.
It can block all cookies/javascript/requests for websites by default, allowing you to manually whitelist what you need. I spent hours cleaning my bookmarks and making websites work with it, this is what took the bulk of my time.
I created a brand new Firefox profile, and imported my old bookmarks and passwords, and manually changed some settings in about:config (enable HW acceleration), had to configure search engines, etc.
Thankfully I probably won't have to do this again for many years, and future upgrades will be effortless. After all that, I would say I like this update. It's a pretty large one, brand new theme and many interface changes, some notable performance improvements. Feels like my browser had a bath, got rid of a lot of old crap.

chromeOS is based on gentoo, isn't that funny 4pq?
wwww
No.21189
>>21186Yes I've known that. After you install the Gentoo base system, you can actually get rid of portage, the package manager, and then manually build/install and maintain your own packages. Take away portage and it's not even Gentoo anymore.
I think Gentoo was just an already set up Linux base system for them to modify
I don't use Gentoo anymore btw. It's suffering from lack of staff to maintain it, and it's just not worth it to me anymore, I'm much happier using a binary-based disto (Arch).
You were expected to be your own maintainer with Gentoo, which is a fun learning experience, but if you've done it for years it's not that fun anymore, you're not learning anything new, and it's often just annoying, especially since the lack of staff can make it so issues go unfixed for months.
One problem (and in some cases benefit) of Gentoo, is that a user could be using a practically infinite combination of packages differing in versions, CFLAGS, and support or lack of support for optional dependencies built in at compile time.
Practically every Gentoo user was running a completely unique system, with a completely unique set of binaries. It was very hard to tell what was wrong in some cases because of this. With a binary system like Arch, every user is using the same exact binaries on their system. Having a million users all with the same binaries is invaluable to bug detection, bug fixes, and support/stability.

>I don't use Gentoo anymore btw. It's suffering from lack of staff to maintain it, and it's just not worth it to me anymore, I'm much happier using a binary-based disto (Arch). That's a lie. Gentoo is incredibly well maintained. That's why it's used in enterprise.
>You were expected to be your own maintainer with GentooNo you aren't. What a load of bullshit. The Gentoo dev team maintains those packages, not you. Gentoo post-install is as hands off as you want it to be.
>One problem (and in some cases benefit) of Gentoo, is that a user could be using a practically infinite combination of packages differing in versions, CFLAGS, and support or lack of support for optional dependencies built in at compile time. That's the whole point.
>Practically every Gentoo user was running a completely unique system, with a completely unique set of binaries. It was very hard to tell what was wrong in some cases because of this. With a binary system like Arch, every user is using the same exact binaries on their system. Having a million users all with the same binaries is invaluable to bug detection, bug fixes, and support/stability.You clearly don't understand what reproducible builds are. And, for the record, Arch binaries are exactly comparable to Gentoo in that respect.

>>21198>Gentoo is incredibly well maintained.I've used Gentoo for over 4 years, can't tell you how many times I've seen ebuilds go broken for months, sometimes with extremely easy fixes with working patches posted by users on the bug tracker. I've had to fix ebuilds myself many times.
>That's why it's used in enterprise.Practically no one uses Gentoo on enterprise servers.
>The Gentoo dev team maintains those packages>Gentoo post-install is as hands off as you want it to be.I've seen a gentoo developer themselves say "you are your own distro maintainer".
To be precise they're not maintaining packages, they're maintaining ebuilds, small shell scripts that give instructions on how to download and build a piece of software. There is A LOT expected of an end user, primarily regarding USE flags, which decides what a package is built to support at compile time. Every actual Gentoo user has had to diagnose a problem due to a missing (or harmful) USE flag, find what that USE flag is, enable/disable it, and rebuild all packages that use/need it. This isn't something unnecessary, this is something you WILL experience many times.
No matter how clean you keep your world file, you're going to eventually experience many package conflicts/blocks requiring manual workaround, especially if you're trying to mix the stable and unstable branches.
>You clearly don't understand what reproducible builds are.Are you talking about the stage3 tarball or something? Because I'll say it again, every Gentoo user is using a completely unique system, with completely unique binaries. This is good for choice, horrible for bug detection and stability/support. If there's a bug with a new package in the Arch repos, you can bet there's already other people complaining about it on the bug tracker/comments, because thousands of other people just updated to that same exact binary/package.
>Arch binaries are exactly comparable to Gentoo in that respect. What don't you get. For example if you're using the libreoffice package from Arch repos, you're using the same exact binary that everyone else is using, compiled with the same exact CFLAGS, configuration options, and against the same exact libraries (also built the same exact way) as everyone else.
If someone says they're using libreoffice on Gentoo, that could mean it's compiled with a practically infinite combination of CFLAGS, configuration options (USE flags), and built against any set of libraries (libraries also built in this chaotic manner).

It's a pain to use this system. it's nice when you don't update or at the beginning, but the longer you use it the more sick of it you become. It has a lot of advantages but it has its downsides too. Never in my life would I attempt Gentoo on a server. I'd consider suicide everyday. FreeBSD is much better for this. On a desktop, if you're a NEET and have a lot of time, and you're willing to fuck with it, it's a nice system, especially if you want to rice it (super high customizability). It's also a good system for someone who wants to learn about linux, you'll learn A LOT.

Doesn't matter that much security-wise on desktop if I take certain precautions. With years going by, eventually things will start to fall apart though, as new standards are introduced.
