/what/ was down because of hardware issues.

I have 8GB (2 x 4GB) of RAM, but for some reason was only seeing 6GB. This happened in other LiveCDs and Memtest86, so it wasn't a software issue.

I tested each RAM module and slot in memtest86, no matter what, if only one ram module was inserted, I would only see 2GB (half) of it. If both modules were inserted, I would see 6GB.

I did a whole bunch of stuff to try and fix this. which resulted in GRUB issues causing an unbootable system, which set me back a bit,

Eventually what fixed it was a BIOS upgrade, which I hate doing because it requires booting a FreeDOS flashdrive which is quite scary and could potentially brick my motherboard. I still don't know why this memory issue suddenly started happening.

I sell POS and that happened to me a few weeks ago, I bought aditional RAM modules for the POS and windows only recognized 2Gb and even the BIOS, I eventually upgraded the BIOS and the problem was solved but it took me a while, I tested about 15 modules and even tested different POS. It's something common I guess.
