I miss the more arthouse Mad Dog/Shaft stuff that used to come out. The stuff that was really well-stylized and had interesting themes. It seems like these recent seasons have been nothing but shonen bullshit for literal retards. I have to imagine that has something to do with the growing Western audience, but I find it ironic that the increasingly broader appeal of anime has spurred on shows that seem more like parodies of mainstream tropes than ever before. It used to be that a lot of shows were pretty Universal: they were anime, but you just interpreted them for what they intended to express, not in comparison to the level of mediocrity that their peers were at.
Devilman was good, but nothing besides that, honestly.
