I MEAN ARCH NOT LINUX. arch or ubuntu. everyone says ubuntu is easy but arch is for mouth breathing neckbeard pedos so i figured thats why you use it but also that it attracts them because they have no lives and are willing to do all that work to install software

i want something easy and i am sick of windows. i am even considering a macbook at this point since 98 percent of my pc use is in a web browser

There's only one good reason to use Arch over Ubuntu

Easy compilation of software that builds into packages that perfectly integrate with your package manager like official packages.

This is done by small scripts called PKGBUILDs, and someone has made one for almost everything and uploaded to the AUR. The AUR is not a collection of packages, it is a collection of scripts to compile packages from source code.

No other distro has this, and it is the only reason I even like Arch.

that makes it sound easier and less time consuming than ubuntu, on ubuntu i ahve to maually compile shit or something? why do people recommend ubuntu to newbies and make arch sound for autists

Ubuntu is corporate spyware. Use Pop! OS or Mint. If you want Arch but more noob friendly use Manjaro.

are you serious? i wanted to switch to linux to get away from the botnet

can that do the things whatmin said?

On Ubuntu you either have to install software not in official repos from crappy third-party repos, or manually compile yourself.

In Arch this is a lot easier. People only say Arch is hard literally because of the initial installation process.

>>17093
Yet you trust community distros like Arch?

There is a ton of official package maintainers for Arch, at any time one of these autists could distribute a package with malware.

It's never happened as far as I know, but it could.

I would love to have a corporate distro run by Redhat or Canonical, but with the benefit of Arch I talked about.

>It's never happened as far as I know, but it could.
yeah and it could happen with corporate stuff too. the difference is is that it actually has happened with corporate distros but not community ones… so yeah the only distro you can really trust is LFS and you audit all the source code yourself but I'd sooner trust autists that do it for free than suits who do it for profit

>I would love to have a corporate distro run by Redhat or Canonical

what do you get out of a corporate distro? streamlined tongue-to-boot access?

>what do you get out of a corporate distro? streamlined tongue-to-boot access?

Knowing that a Redhat employee is not going to package malware.

yeah

>can that do the things whatmin said?

yeah, manjaro repos are basically delayed arch repos and you can use the AUR which is what whatmin likes

also since you're lazy look at point 1 in this article regarding software installation. More of a pain on Ubuntu
https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2020/01/24/3-reasons-why-pop-os-is-the-perfect-choice-for-linux-gamers/

I think manjaro is similarly streamlined in terms of software isntallation, i know it has hw detection for quick driver installation

I use Arch because it's community-based, has relatively minimal defaults, is rolling-release and close to upstream, and contrary to memes doesn't actually break. I like pacman too. Plus when I used Debian I generally found the Arch wiki more helpful than the Debian wiki so that influenced me to try it.

Because of its minimal defaults I know that there's nothing on my system that I don't use.

I also don't know enough about inits to have a strong opinion on systemd but it's easy enough to work with when I need to so I don't have a negative opinion of it.

and for gaming is linux still useless? whatmin you said they fixed anti cheat or something and now everything works on linux but is it slow and laggy

 No.17114

>and for gaming is linux still useless?
No, I'd estimate about 90% of Windows games work through Wine now (not including any Indie games, because then it would be more like 99%).

Guy1524 has almost fixed video playback within a few months of work. Before this he fixed raw input, and now he's working on EAC (easy anti cheat).

>you said they fixed anti cheat

Some change to Wine accidentally fixed Street Fighter V's anti cheat, no one knows what did it.

There is almost always at least a slight performance hit.

Most of the time it's slight.

In rare cases, performance is much worse, and sometimes better than native Windows.

>It is Arch under the nice paintjob after all.
It’s a shitshow under the hood compared to Arch. Manjaro doesn’t even share the PKGBUILDs they use and you have no idea what they are actually doing on your machine while using it. They basically told anyone worried about that to get fucked.

Meanwhile Arch has pulled off reproducible builds and is very transparent and responsive to issues.

Research and make your own decision? Nobody's forcing you to do anything, and if you pick a distro you don't like it takes like an hour to install a new one. (put your /home on a different partition than root to make re-installs easier)

>>17116
Most games run slightly worse on linux but some run better and usually it's just a few fps difference. Some games won't even start though so there's that.

If you use steam check protondb.com for specific games

It’s basically just for hipsters who want to feel cool for using a distro and think using Arch is cool (it’s not) but are too fucking retarded to read the Arch install guide.

Manjaro is a shit show of a distro run by idiots which explains why they looked at the inherently less stable rolling release model of Arch and decided to build a worse Linux Mint on it.

Manjaro is a derivative of Arch Linux, which is the main distribution for homosexuals.
The reason this is being pushed is the same reason that homosexuality is being pushed through Hollywood onto the rest of the world.
