I've only skimmed through most shows, so don't get too offended if I call something you like crap, but basically, everything so far is probably crap except these two shows (don't assume I'm hyping these shows):

Also I would have to encode the video to VP8 or VP9, and basically to get the same video quality, I would have to produce a much larger video file. I'm not sure if the formats are just worse than H.264, but I know the encoders available for vp8/vp9 aren't nearly as good as x264.

If the overall quality of the anime being made today has dropped- and it has- it's because the consumers standards have dropped. Otaku nerd faggots seem to be more than happy with a show that focuses on how the girls are just so cute (and pretty much all anime girls are cute anyways) rather than having a show that has any actual substance to it.
And it's not as if I expect every anime to be a 10/10 masterpiece, but I at least want
something. Even a shitty hack like Rumiko Takahashi could could up with fun, interesting settings and characters instead of making using the same tropes and achetypical characters that have been done over and over again. Rumiko would just use the same shitty jokes over and over again and drag her series into the trash.
Authors can see what the "memes" are, they know how to pander to their consumers and get them to buy the merch. It reminds me of Hillary Clinton doing a stereo typical black pastor voice when she wanted to pander to blacks. Who would want that? Anyone goes along with it should be ashamed for allowing themselves to be strung along like that and enabling more behavior like it.

I actually like the state anime is in right now, it's better than it has been in years I think. We are getting things like Kemono freinds, Shojou Shuumatsu and Hakumei to Mikochi. Yes there is a large amount of rubbish too but you don't have to watch it.
