I started watching this anime El Hazard.

A lot of creativity went into this, I wish anime/manga creators today still had that kind of creativity.

They seem to have lost their ability to create detailed fantasy worlds, even when they try, it still feels too attached to modern-day reality. It became more mass produced, and they use cookie-cutter templates to create anime.

It's like how /qa/ complains about "template threads".

The following are frames that were shown for a few seconds each, drawn by hand, you won't see that kind of detail used anymore.

The Weathering Continent's a pretty good fantasy flick, don't think it's as detailed as what you're watching, though.

I tried watching this because I really liked tenchi muyo and everyone recommends this because it's the same creator but I kinda dropped it, can't even remember why, gonna try rewatching it. But yeah, cel anime always looks gorgeous, it has this certain quality to it that digital can't really recreate.
